Norfolk Wildlife Trust begin survey of churchyards

The Norfolk Wildlife Trust (NWT) has established a Churchyard Conservation Scheme to encourage those responsible for churchyards to consider the needs of wildlife during routine management of the churchyard, as well as during works to the buildings, churchyard walls and tombstones.

NWT is assisting the Heavenly Gardens project to manage the city churchyards for wildlife by:

  • carrying out a plant survey of each churchyard;
  • listing the wildflowers found;
  • providing a sketch map showing areas of interest;
  • suggesting areas for careful management to restore or maintain wildflower interest;
  • advising on aspects of managing churchyards for wildlife;
